Globally, there is a paradigm shift from conventional manufacturing to advanced manufacturing. Thus, in the quest for technological development of the nation, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) in 2010 establsihed a Centre of Excellence in Jalingo known as the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Programme (AMT-P), Jalingo with mandate of “Sourcing, Acquisition, Development and Application of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies for the production of components, machinery and their production systems and transfer of same to satellite industries”

Like a spark of fire, the center started, but going by what was on ground, by every stretch of imagination, the future looks bleak and blank, dark and gloomy because the centre started with Zero Take-Off Grant, Zero Personnel, Zero Office Accomodation and Zero AMT Facilities.

However, against all odds, sheer commitment, dedication, sacrifice, passion and determination spurred Professor Mohammed Dauda (Pioneer MD/CE), the former Acting MD Engr. Christopher Tanko John (Late) and the present Overseeing officer, Engr Salami Saliu with team array of Engineers, scientists, technologist and technicians to bring the centre to its present enviable state. New Overseeing Officer for the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Institute (AMTDI) Jalingo in person of Engr. Salami Saliu has been appointed and has assumed his duties on 24th June, 2024 by the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). His appointment is necessitated by the demise of former Overseeing Officer, Late Engr. Christopher Tanko that answered the call to glory after ill health on 22nd of June, 2024. Read More

Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) encompasses the use of innovative technologies, software, computers and networks to produce and deliver value-added competitive products and services. Being the flagship centre to pioneer and project advanced manufacturing technologies for adoption and domestication in Nigeria, the major roles of AMT-P Jalingo include .

1. Research Optimization

The centre, which serves as a coordinating centre for AMT Programmes of NASENI, is to close the technological gap between Nigeria and Industralized nations in the following AMT areas: Additive Manufacturing Technologies, Process Automation, Advanced Machining, etc.

2. Capacity Building in AMT

The Centre has a well-equipped automation training Centre for developing capacity in the use of technologies to monitor and control production and delivery of services. The Festo Authorized and Certified Training Centre (FACT) is operated in partnership with Festo, a leading German Automation Company on Mechatronics, Process and Factory Automation..
